I am currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in computer science under the supervision of Prof. Tianzhou Chen at the Hardware/Software Codesign lab.

Research

My research interests lie in the area of computer architecture with a focus on high performance microarchitecture. I am now working in new cache designs based on program behavior. I have also worked in the area of power-aware computing. Going forward, I wish to engage in exciting research for enhancing the interaction between software and hardware.

Simulators & Tools

Doing research on computer architecture seems a hard work, since it is totally about the hardware and researchers usually cannot afford to make new CPU chips. Thanks to a lot of great simulators, researchers have successfully soften their hard job. Now, the newest and most powerful CPUs are probably powered by these simulators rather than Intel.

Although a comprehensive list of simulators is maintained on the WWW Computer Architecture Page, some in the list are outdated or rarely used. For those who want to chose a right simulator for their research, here I give a brief review of the most useful simulators.

Simulators, of cause, come with cost - they are slow, 1000X or even 100000X slower than real hardware. This means that it may takes years to run a single SPEC applicaticion. For those who do not want to waste their time in waiting for a completely honest result, but still have a rigid reqirement for the accuracy, I recommend the great SimPoint tool.

Life Outside Work

I spend most of my spare time reading. I maintain a life-long reading list for myself, hoping that it could be finished as early as possible so I could start another life happily. I am also a big fan of Woody Allen's movies and the longest run cartoon series, the Simpons.

Now I am restarting my long-delayed training plan for half marathon. After it, I will take several tours around natural landscapes in China.
